There's a really good book by Booker T. Whatley called "How to make $100,000 farming 25 acres". It discusses specialty crops, organically raised livestock and such and how to diversify so you have income from different crops throughout the year. It also talks about equipment. Of course it isn't a guarantee, but it should give you a lot of ideas. Amazon.com probably has a copy.
