For old flat link chain in a spreader I just use waste oil. Anything at all. Just find a less than obvious place to park the spreader while you "apply" the oil.... Once the spreader is working in manure, I don't worry about it. Those are slow moving, cool running chains, so it's not like they need much lube. Rod
