If a vr has a bad ground reference it can effect charge voltage... it will depend on the circuit type on how it effects it. if B circuit ( field power from VR ).. then I would suspect a bad ground would make for overcharging... perhaps overworking the alternator. Looks like time for a 'free' test at the auto store.. Soundguy
