Just did this conversion on a 4020 last winter and had the same problem, only I blew the gauge by having a positive ground gauge and when it changed to neg ground it blew. The gauge you have is the wrong one or it is blown. You have to get a 12 volt neg ground gauge and it should work if you wired the system correctly. Also make sure you connected all the wires togeather at the starter and hooked them to the positive side to get 12 volts of neg ground to the dash. The back of the gauge should say 12 neg if it is the right one. Deere makes the gauges pos ground and neg ground so it is easy to mix them up.
