My 2007 GMC Sierra 2500HD has the same engine. It's 4WD and I get 12 running empty. I'd have expected a little better with 2WD, but it depends on rearend ratio, driving style, and load, among other things. I'm some glad it's not my ONLY vehicle, but like the folks said below, when I need it, I need it and I try not to think about the mileage.
