The M came with a vented cap. The original cap was about one inch high and the vents were located on the underside just inside the outer rim. Where the cap was crimped together there were several gaps that served as the vents. The triple baffle caps were sold as a replacment cap to correct a problem of fuel leaking out of the vents on the original style caps. The current cap with two vent holes was introduces to correct a problem of the vent hole sometimes getting plugged on the earlier caps.
