Turn it in to your insurance. It goes on Comprehensive, not Collision. Should be no damage to your record for a Comprehensive claim. Same part of your insurance that covers fire & theft. Often there is a much lower deductible on Comprehensive than Collision.

Give all the other guy's insurance information to your insurance company. If they think he should pay, they can file a subrogation suit against him and his insurance will have to pay.

At least that's how it would work in my state, your's may vary.
