I can see your point over adjusting the top link continually. I sold implements for a manufacturer for 26 years, and saw this happen a few times to get extra penetration.
If you "power down" too much you will raise the tractor rear wheels & loose traction; or on a 4wd tractor the front wheels will do all the work and you can get axle problems.
I went to see a landscaper on a warranty claim on one of our rotary cultivators, breaking & wearing out blades. He had 50" rotovator on 25HP 4wd Kubota. The front tyres were bald where they had done all the driving, the rear tyres didnt touch the soil! It was like a banana LoL. All the weight was on front wheels & rotovator shaft/blades. No he didnt get warranty claim !!!
Just be careful what pressure you put on the implement. Hope it works out for you.
