I haven't had the engine out of mine, but have had it stripped from the transfercase to the bare end of the crank and block. Drop all the clutching and gearing and it won't be much more than a straight lift then. Should also be a lot easier to handle.

The T case is light, nothing to it, but that 5 speed is a heavy sucker.

I imagine when the dealer does it they break it apart at the bell housing and leave the tranny in place. It can surely be done, but I bet its hard to stab in those cramped quarters.
