What version of Windows do you have? The blaster virus on an unpatched Windows 2000 or XP will do that. Do you get an error message before it shuts down? Does it shut down while you are working on it - or only after you leave it alone for a while? The "go-to-sleep" options never have worked very well on any version of Windows... Howard
