David, if you bring your tractors, I'm in that adoption deal!

As for taxes, despite the fact that I had a 70 mile round trip commute for 11 years, and now drive a F-350 diesel crew cab (eight mile commute :), I have thought for years that the US needed to increase gas taxes dramatically to get people to drive less, car pool and use public transportation. In part it is now too late. The oil companies are getting that money.

When you are at the lower income levels, any increase in expenses hurts, but I think increasing the cost of driving is the only way to get people to use less oil. It wouldn't necessarily have to be increased taxes I suppose, could also impose fees for large, or inefficient vehicles.

A big chunk of the money we spend on oil goes into the pockets of Islamic regiems (Iran, Saudi Arabia - who by the way, are presented to us by our polititians as our friends, but are among the most despicable rulers on earth),and to Islamic terrorists.

Reducing the amount of oil we use and the amount of money we send to the Middle East is imperitive for our National security and that of the rest of the world.

The real cost of gas is still lower than it was in the early 1980s, and although people complain all the time, I don't see many of them slowing down to conserve, and half flat tires are abundant on the road way. People can go to the car wash twice a week but they can't be bothered to inflate their tires properly.

Most people have their heads buried in the own- you know what. Money is the only thing they listen to.

Today's Featured Article - Harvestin Hay: The Early Years (Part 2) - by Pat Browning. The summer of 1950 was the start of a new era in farming for our family. I was thirteen, and Kathy (my oldest sister) was seven. At this age, I believed tractor farming was the only way, hot stuff -- and given a chance I probably would have used the tractor, Dad's first, a 1936 Model "A" John Deere, to go bring in the cows! And I think Dad was ready for some automation too. And so it was that we acquired a good, used J. I. Case, wire tie hay baler. In addition to a person to drive th ... [Read Article]
