PTO Adapters

ok both my choppers run on a 1000 RPM PTO shaft. i have 2 tractors with 1000 RPM PTO. i was wondering if everything would run alright with a 1000 to 540 adapter so i wouldn't have to switch shafts all the time. someone told me everything would not run at the same speed and like the choppers wouldn't do as good of a job. what are your guys' opinions?
