MF 50A Backhoe-Loader Fan Belt

I have a Massey Ferguson 1972 50A Tractor Backhoe-Loader, it is quite old, and always needs something. The latest thing is the fan belt, so I went to the local parts store and picked one up, but when I tried to install the crankshaft comes out of the main pulley into the frame. Is there a way to bypass this? Do I have to take the whole front end apart? Should I just call the local guy who fixes tractors? Please help!!!!
