Have you first removed the PTO shaft by removing the 4 bolts holding the bearing housing to the rear of the case, then pulling the PTO shaft rearward, out of the pump? If you've done that, the pump is simply stuck to the gasket, and when it lets go, it will FALL out. Be careful when re-installing the pump... there is a control arm hanging down from the top lift cover that has to properly engage with a lever on the pump as the pump goes back up.
