sounds like the pos. &neg cables are on backwards otherwise the pos. cable goes on the top or bolt farthest from the starer motor on the solenoid and the rest should be obvious by size of eye on wire or the wire about the size of a #12 will go on with the bat. cable and the smaller one will go on the bolt off to the side one will make it click and the other will act like it"s just dead . make sure all wire ends and threads are clean and the little copper piece from the bolt out the side of the starter housing is on the sloenoid bolt closest to the starter it"s self .
