Spark plug heat range has NOTHING to do with your problem. Plugs too "cold" will foul, plugs too "hot" will cause pre-ignition and detonation, and burned spark plug tips. Late ignition timing will make an engine run HOT, with hot exhaust. However, since the heat is localized to the area of a cylinder or two, could you have the spark pluk wires out of order to a couple of cylinders? How about an intake leak making a cylinder or two run LEAN, with the resulting HOT exhaust? Or, a bad exhaust valve or scored cylinder, causing poor compression, and unburned gasoline entering the exhaust manifold, where it burns, causing HEAT?
