When Henry Ford wanted to get into tractor production, the Ford Motor Company board of directors balked and he was forced to start his own company "Henry Ford & Son". Tractors produced by this company were called "Fordsons". Henry took complete control or Ford Motor Company in 1920, so he could do pretty much whatever he wanted to do; he merged Ford & Son into Ford Motor Company and began producing tractors under the Ford name. The Fordson name continued to be used for tractors produced by Ford in England well into the 1960's. Many of these tractors, such as the Fordson Major, were imported into the US and kept the Fordson name, even though they were sold by Ford farm equipment dealers.
