I've used 10 year old heating oil and it works just fine. Used it in my tractors, backhoe, dozer, and my 6.9 diesel Ford farm truck. In fact - the Ford is used to plow snow in the winter - and with some Power Service anti-gel added, it started just as well in cold weather with the old fuel - as it does with anything else.
The main concern with any old diesel fuel - is if its collected any moisture - it might have a lot of diesel bacteria in it - and that plugs filters and fuel pick-up screens.
