Using a disc to make a fireline

Hello-

I live in SW MO, and with all of the wood on the ground in the woods around my property, I want to cut a fireline to stop the inevetiable brush fires from coming over here.

I thought about using a 7 or 8" disc to cut a line in the grass.

Would this work?
Is there a better way to do it?
Anyone in SW MO got an old one they want to sell?

Any insights or advice would be helpful.
