You can improve the performance of those old JD mowers 100% by replacing the short fat JD mower guards with New holland Moco guards, they are a bolt in fit, and those slim guards have only a fraction of the plugging problens of the original. In this area it's almost impossible to find a JD mower that have NOT been converted to NH guards.
