I emailed him only AFTER he had ended the auction unexpectedly.

Since this was NOT a "best offer" auction; making him an offer DURING the auction to buy it "outside the auction" would be against ebay rules.

But; I guess this in NOT about "playing by the rules" or personal integrity; just what folks can "get by with".
