If you really wanted it, why didn't you just make your best offer in your email, instead of playing footsie with him? You may have felt good about upholding your principals, but you also didn't end up with the item. Instead of insisting Ebay be a "true auction", just look at it a marvelous way to find that bezel shaft for your Prairie Dominator 2000, that you would have never found otherwise, then revert to actual one on one communication with the seller, like we used to do. Even if he won't end the auction early for you, he'll probably let it run its course if you tell him what your maximum is. BTW- Ebay will never be a true auction until they change to ending the sale at xxx O'clock or 10 minutes after the last bid, whichever is later.
