It should run fine by hooking 12 volt power direct to the coil. It will just shorten the lifespan of the points a bit - especially with a Prestolite. The Prestolite points burn up faster than the Delco.
As I said earlier - the 2010 really needs the proper coil. If it does NOT have a Deere part # on it, I suggest buying the correct coil if you plan on starting the tractor when it's colder than 20 degrees F. If you live in a warm area, then it probably doesn't matter. 2010 takes the same coil as a 6 volt 420 tractor.
The original IGN switches in the 2010s did not last long and they had the "bypass" resistor built into them. Deere later came out with an upgraded switch that has the bypass-switch built into it, but a remote-mount resistor.
If you have a Delco starter (not Prestolite), you don't need the special switch. Put in any old automotive-type IGN switch for battery ignition and tap your resistor-bypass from the "R" terminal on the starter-solenoid.
