You are sure right - you do have to be very careful. But a lot of that is totally out of Ebay's and Paypal's control. No different than someone walking up to you on the street, opening their coat to show you a bunch of watches, and saying they are with Rolex... You just have to know when to walk away... For one thing, a true paypal message will always include your full name in the salutation inside...
