Have received this twice in the last few days from PayPal Inc.. They send me a confirmation of my purchse of a Dell Computer, with a shipping address to some one I don't know, in another part of North America. They want you to reply if there is problem with this, and give them a whole pile of personal info. My wife was on the verge of replying to this scam when I grabbed her hand. Be warned, and be careful with your info! Kent in NB.

I send them false information I figure if everyone who got one of those would do the same thing it would pile up there website so bad that they would have to quit.
Besides I would love to see the poor guy going though thousands of them looking for a good one.

Never reply or open any links in a paypal fake email. You must forward it right away to spoof@paypal.com.

Truly said, when we can figure a way to make people interested in earning a small amount of money legally as compared to making a quick large sum illegally (often with just a harmless slap on the wrist) then all this garbage will stop.

Got to sound off a bit. The message is not from paypal, so why blame paypal? If some one came up to you and said they were from home depot and you owed them money, would you blame home depot? No, You'd tell tem to go jump. I have had perfect service from paypal, but have had credit card computers screw up my account but then every body trusts them.

Thanks for the warning, others may not have know about it.

No, the message is not from paypal, but paypal obviously does make it possible for someone to hack into the system and steal user account information, so, indirectly, paypal is at least partly responsible for those scams.

Yes, Ludwig is right. PayPal does not 'make it possible' to have the 'spoof' sent. Everybody gets fake emails when using ebay or paypal, but when you get them, forward them to PayPal, We have forwarded emails to ebay/paypal and if we don't forward them and just delete them, the same emails just come back over and over.

Nope, they haven't gotten the info from Paypal, they get it either by watching eBay or just randomly sending stuff to you. I get a TON of stuff from "banks" I don't have accounts with.
The scammers pick a company and flood the world with emails if 0.01% of the people fall for it they win...

You are sure right - you do have to be very careful.

But a lot of that is totally out of Ebay's and Paypal's control.

No different than someone walking up to you on the street, opening their coat to show you a bunch of watches, and saying they are with Rolex...

You just have to know when to walk away...

For one thing, a true paypal message will always include your full name in the salutation inside...

Paypal and ebay are becoming one of the biggest legal scams in the world. And they wll do nothing about it, I know a lot of people use Flebay with good luck, but I have closed my account, and no longer will sell or buy there.
Heck, I have not sold anything in the last 45 days, and got a bill from them saying I owe them 35.00 +_. And they wil not respond when I email them and ask them what it is for.

That is exactly why I canceled my account, before I got billed for something that I did not owe. So far, everything is OK, but I find it pretty interesting that my account will not be fully closed for a period of 90 days, so I guess I am not free and clear yet. Just sitting here with crossed fingers.

That is one of the more common scams. It did not come from paypal. Your best option is to just delete it and go on. I honestly think that ebay and paypal could put a stop to those scams if they just wanted to, but they won't. I cancelled both my ebay account and my paypal account because I just don't trust them anymore. I still get those scam e-mails from paypal.

OK. I read what everyone else had to say and there is a lot of the scam stuff that most people just don't understand. I do website design so when I get one of the phishing emails, I instantly recognize it and sometimes I will play around with them by giving them bogus info. But to my point, neither ebay nor paypal are behind the scams! It is not hard to make a web page look like either paypal or ebay. The scammer, usually from Nigeria, send out emails phishing then wait for some rube to go to their website and enter all their personal information and then JACKPOT! So don't just instantly blame ebay or paypal. I had my own business website and it was a real challenge to keep scammers at bay! The best way to keep from getting scammed is be aware. There are plenty of places on the internet to educate yourself!
That's my rant for the day!

They try to chase those scams but the money scammers makes keeps them going faster than they can shut down phishing sites.

Its the online equivalent to the old wallet inspector prank.
