I agree, that was one of the reasons I have a bit of a sour taste with renting. I know he has quite a few acres enrolled in EQIP and and pays less than $20 acre for OK land. I just beleive you need to let the owner know what his/her land is being enrolled in. I'm not sure, but I beleive when I was reading the "rules" it said you had to provide proof of securing the farm rights to the land for the term of the Eqip contract, which I beleive is 3 years. Well, I have 100 acres worth of chicken crap a year so I should be about right running 100 or so acres. I ussually sell the manure for $1300-$1400, what would it cost me to fertilize 100 acres with commercial fertilizer? I beleive the U of M recommends 2-3 tons /acre for my soil. But I need to take soil samples next fall and have my manure tested also.
