I remember this coming up some time ago. In our family, the "big" meal of the day was dinner- On Sundays, it was about 1 or 2 in the afternoon, after church. Weekdays it was in the evening. We might also call the evening meal supper, interchangeably. Most of us only had 3 meals a day, so what do you do with 4 names?
