Being here in Central Texas where we have Houston Black soils and dirivities there of. I opt for the narrower of the three. For the total load on the tractor should be less, so when the time arises when a higher grar and speed will facilitate more soil action, and result in a more finished seedbed.
We pull a IH 500, with 22" disk, it is 14 ft wide. on a second ot third pass it will sure give our 4230 fits. Our 4230 is carring + - 750lbs of cast on each rear corner on single 18.4x38! Duals would improve preformance in loose soil situations.
As far as disk sharpness, a disk should have given thickness then taper down to a sharper edge for cutting soil, trash and residue. That taper will usually start about 1 in. back from the edge. If the disk are a straight given thickness then the edge just rounds off then they are dull. and need to be sharpen "Rolled" or replaced. Hope this helps.
