Assuming a 12 volt tractor, you need either a 12v coil with no external resistor required. You can also use a 12v coil with an external resistor required along with the ballast resistor from a mid 1960s GM car. (a white porcelin block about 2.5"X5/8"X5/8" with tab connectors on each end. The resistor is connected to the wire going to the ignition switch on one end, and the coil terminal that is not attached to the distributor/points. The coil polarity does matter. Attach the neg term of coil to dist if Neg ground, and pos of coil to dist if pos grond. If your tractor has a four terminal solenoid, and a ballast resistor is used, the I terminal of the solenoid is attached to the coil side of the ballast resistor. Long, but I hope complete info. JimN
