What you can do, and what you should do, are two different things.

Usually you cannot use the old U-bolt because it's not long enough.

Blocks in general are not a good thing as they cause neat torque loads around the axle and spring perch. They do this when you brake and when you apply throttle. Produces un-nice hops and occassional breakage.

Can you do it? Yes. Can you drive on it? Of course. But it won't be as nice as it was when stock. The harder you drive, the more pronounced the degradation.
