What you can do, and what you should do, are two different things.

Usually you cannot use the old U-bolt because it's not long enough.

Blocks in general are not a good thing as they cause neat torque loads around the axle and spring perch. They do this when you brake and when you apply throttle. Produces un-nice hops and occassional breakage.

Can you do it? Yes. Can you drive on it? Of course. But it won't be as nice as it was when stock. The harder you drive, the more pronounced the degradation.

Just order a proper lift kit that is designed for a 1985 f-250. Because after you put all the time into blocks for the front end and it won't be safe to drive down the highway you will order the lift kit and do it right the second time anyway. The longest distance between any two points is a shortcut. Well engineered lift kits are not expensive anyway. Lying under your truck and doing it two time is very frustrating and expensive.

Don't reuse old u-bolts and blocks were never recomended on the front axle. Added leafs and new tie bolt are the way to go for safety reasons.

No!
Ive been 4 wheeling for a decade and have read dozens of times to never ever use lift blocks on the front. If you do make your own out of real stought steel like 3/8" rectangular tubing and go with a length at least twice as long as the blocks you can buy. Never is it recomended to reuse stock ubolts but if you use lift blocks I would say no way. An easy and cheap way to lift your front is to just get a junkyard set of springs and add some leafs. Use a new center bolt. Leaf pacs are easy to take apart and add leaves. The front end has a lot of stress on it under hard breaking and hard steering and regular rear lift blocks can't handle the stress and it will induce spring wrap in the springs when breaking. This is why I say use extra long not tall blocks to limitt spring wrap. Don't do it! Just add to the pac you have. Take the main spring out of the junk yard spring and cut the eyes off and add that one to the springs you have maybe another if you want more.

I have helped guys do this with older Chevrolet with the leaf springs all around only problem we had was that when you lifted it it would steer real tight one direction and then take ten acres to turn teh other.

Front blocks are a no-no in most places, I don't know if you have safety inspections or not. They can be spit out and you can break a main leaf easier when braking because the sharp edge rolls into the spring pack.

If you're gonna lift like that get some short leaves and a longer centering pin and new u-bolts.

Everything I"ve ever read is that lift blocks are not for the front. Ofcourse, the articles show trucks with 4 inches or more but I would still think anything less is a no no.
How would you secure them from spitting out which is a possibility. Get a set of springs that are made to lift accordingly. Use your homemade blocks on the back.

It"s your truck and if you think you can engineer something that accomplishes what you want it"s your choice. Just don"t drive it down my road....
