Best answer I have heard when someone makes a jerk comment like that is to immediatly ask him.
"What do you mean by that?".
That puts the burden on him to explain his comment. You will find out very quickly if he ment somthing other than what it sounded like he said,or not. Then you can react correctly to his remark.
