ejr is correct. If your drive line is completely covered with shields, it may be hard to see the system slow down. Taking a shield off for analysis is OK if you are cautious. Use the machine while looking at the shaft. If it slows, the PTO clutch is either toast, or badly out of adjustment. If you decide to repair it a book, and careful attention to process is needed. If the shaft does not slow down, the slip clutch on the mower may be at fault. Some are adjustable, some are toast when they slip under normal loads. Stripped gears in the drive are usually very noisy and obvious. If the mower blade hubs are belt driven, The belt could be slipping. Look for an adjuster or movable idler to retension the belt. JimN
