Maryland is doing the same thing.A couple hundred dollars a year to tag my 1 ton.Then you have to go the DOT route when you are over 10k pounds. But I guess it's cheaper than a $1500+ scale ticket.Way a cop explained it to me is if your truck/trailer is tagged for 7000# and they weigh it and you gross 16,000# you are liable for the 9000# overweight @.50 a pound ($4500)if they really want to stick it to you. They are even cracking down on the big 5th wheel RV'S being pulled by 1/2 ton pickups.
