Gravely clutch

I posted on Garden Tractor forum , no responses..I'll try here now..I've got a Gravely repair job dumped in my lap..After much searching model numbers, it turns out to be a model 526 with 8 horse Kohler , swiftomatic , 8 speed..My question is how thick are the clutch linings supposed to be on the forward and reverse..Next , what centers the forward and reverse so it doesn't creep..I have to physically hold the F-N-R lever in a neutral position , otherwise it walks away..I would think there should be centering springs on the cross shaft for the F-N-R to center the clutch..However none are shown on a parts breakdown..Any help will be greatly appreciated..
