Questions on a 3 bottom Plow

I have a friend who was given a very large (heavy) 3PH 3x16 or 3x18 Class 2 made by "Long" (this plow had a square plate at the back so you could bolt on extra plows to make it a 4 or 5 bottom). The plow was to much for his tractor so he decided to take it to the local tractor & equipment dealer to trade it for a smaller (lighter) class 1 3PH 3x16 or 3x14 3ph plow. The salesman told us that the plow was only worth about $100.00. I didn't understand why. It was nice, clean and straight, just to big and heavy for the tractor. The salesman tried to tell us that Long was junk and the plow was not worth the $100. Why would the Long Plow only be worth $100???? It didn't rally matter he got it for free, but it was bigger and cleaner than anything the saleman had on this lot, other than the repainted ones. Has any one ever heard good or bad things on a Long plow. We ended up getting a MF plow, it seems to work great and the tractor handles the new plow very well. Thanks
