My 6.5 acre estate that I've owned for nearly 44 years is just inside Cook County (Chicago).
Last year my taxes went to just over $13K. Luckly, the area I'm in is lower than surrounding area and a lift station would need to be put in for sewer lines. Too expensive, City dosen't want us. So for that kind of $ I get fire, police and library.....God life is good, especially when I think back 44 years wondering how I was going to pay the $99.00/month house payment!
