The rod bearing your talking about was poured into the rod,look at the inside where the bearing would be, is there a lead looking material stuck to the rod and cap? If so that is the bearing surface and if it is undamaged it is reuseable(and is renewable by a some old engine shops)and is adjusted with those shimms in your case you will need to probably remove one or two from the upper and lower just be sure to keep them even.
