I agree that the John Deere's are overpriced to the point of ridiculousness, but with todays large equipment, they are not to big. Twelve row equipment on 38 inch rows for cotton or whatever require one hell of a toolbar, on top of all the parts that are attached, if you take a twelve row planter, and then fill each hopper with seed, this accounts for alot of wieght, the new Magnum MX 270's are capable of lifting over 16000 pounds. As far as an overrated piece of equipment, I would have to say the new John Deere cotton pickers are very overrated. You have to pay near 200,000 dollars for a picker that just picks on one side of the row. I have seen it so many times where a Red picker is in the same field as a green one, the red one just picks the stalk much cleaner. Granted, the John Deeres are very reliable mechanically, and they can go though the mud better on wet years, but the red picker does a better job because it picks both sides of the row. KC
