OT Mac Laptop Computers

I think I have talked myself into a Mac laptop to replace my Compac that fried the motherboard 13 days after the waranty ran out.
I know nothing about Macs amd need some advise.
Is the G4 good or is there better. I do need VGA or Svideo Out as well as firewire and SD Card inputs.
I am an old PC guy and know my way around these and Microsoft pretty well but I am MAC illiterate.
I am looking at the Macbook pro 15".
Any suggestions?
