I think I have talked myself into a Mac laptop to replace my Compac that fried the motherboard 13 days after the waranty ran out.
I know nothing about Macs amd need some advise.
Is the G4 good or is there better. I do need VGA or Svideo Out as well as firewire and SD Card inputs.
I am an old PC guy and know my way around these and Microsoft pretty well but I am MAC illiterate.
I am looking at the Macbook pro 15".
Any suggestions?
Brian

I have used both for years & prefer the Mac over the PC . But you are limited to programs for Mac . MS windows is a lot like the MAC operating SYS after all "thats where they stole it from". Dont let the speed of MAC fool you as they operate more than twice as fast as PC . A plus is you don't have to worry about vir as most are writen for EXC files .

I use PC and Macs (I'm a tech guy) and like them both. That being said my laptop is a MacBook Pro and I love it.

Do it, you can run windows on the new MacBooks using Boot Camp or in Parallels, there's nothing you can't do...

Uncle,

I use a Mac at work and a PC at home. I am not a sophisticated user - I simply use applications. From that perspective, I don't see enough difference to care one way or the other. I do know that the Macs in our office are more expensive than PCs, fail more often than PCs, are more expensive to fix than PCs, and are much more difficult to find qualified repair centers than PC repair centers.

Because I am just an application user, I'd never buy a Mac.

Good luck with whatever decision you make.

I know very little about this stuff, but my nephew bought a new one of those and my Dad wants one now. Said it is the best thing ever, everything just goes in and works. So I'd say get one or better yet get 2 and send me one . LOL I never did like windows and could never figure out how a company got so rich selling something so defective ! All the problems and slowness of the older windows if any other product was that bad it would of never sold !

Another plus with a new Mac is the option to also run the Windows operating system if you really need to.
Also the link below can give you lots of info about them if you call.

If you are looking at the new Powerbook Pro's, it's no longer the G4, it's going to be the Intel Core 2 Duo processor. It will have VGA out with an included adaptor, and fireware of course as they came out with it. The SD card inputs, you'd have to check on, they have something called an ExpressCard slot, but not sure if that's the same or not. You don't mean the little SD memory cards in digital cameras do you?

I have not used these new ones as mine is a 6 year old Titanium, and keeps humming along. But you should find it to be a great machine.

I would highly recomend a Mac.
