Check your parts, points set closely. I have found "cheap" points sets that didn"t have any bushing on the arm pivot pin, the arm was only on the pin. These points may stick open,and quickly wear the pivot. Some "cheap" points don"t have any lube wick. Some "better" points have the bushing, the lube wick, and a separate copper conductor from the points to the connector for the lead-in wire.
You get what you pay for, If you"re lucky.

If you rebuild the motor, you could use hardened seats and valves, and unleaded fuel. But if your old tractor runs good, a simple lead substitute added to the gas is a perfectly reasonable solution.
