Some items have a very wide price range simply due to interest in the item. You could well advertise something at a "fair" price and get no interest. You could advertise it "cheap" and get a lot of calls from tire kickers. I've put "fair" prices on stuff before and got nowhere with it. Right now I've got a guy looking at an old truck. I told him to make an offer. If it's reasonable, I'll accept. If not, we'll deal. If he want's it for nothing, it's going to sit for a while longer...
For the record, some of the best deals I've gotten were on items that had no listed price. Just call up, negociate... I've gotten stuff for 2/3 the asking price like that. Some of the worst deals I got were on listed prices that the dealer simply would not move on. The way I see it... If I'm interested in something, I'll call. If it's too high, I can always walk away.
