Max out your tire pressure on the truck and trailer. You said that the gas made a difference. Have you tried premium? Under such a heavy load the computer will retard timing and change fuel maps and you may notice some gains with a load of premium. Is your air filter new? I modify the air intake to let more air into the air cleaner. Ever one is different but you can ussually trim the inlet to open it up a little. What RPM's are you running? I wont be suprised if 3000 rpm feels right. I went to a diesel truck but the only thing it does good is pull. I think they stink for everthing else.
