I would fix the cv jionts and rack and pinion and use the 260 ac and keep on driving, if the paint really bothers you then have a cheap paint job done. A friend of mine once gave me a plymouth colt, didn't look great but ran good, I drove it for several years, my son drove it to college for a year and then I gave it to another friend who need a car bad.
