To answer a few of the questions below. The tractor is a 12 volt negative ground. The coil uses an external resister. I did not change all these items at one time. I first tried to get spark by using the what was on the tractor, i.e. points, condenser, etc. but no luck. I then changed the coil with no luck, then adjusted the points and then changed to electronic ignition. I got the electronic ignition according to the one listed on this site for the 12 volt negative ground. I followed the directions for installation in the package using the external resister which is still in place. I checked the fire going to the resister and coil and coming out of the coil and the tester does light up properly. I have not checked the big wire coming out of the coil though. The EI installation seemed straght forward so hopefully no problem there. thanks for the replies.
