They can be tricky, but they will come out. You have to take the two bolts out of course, and they can be close sometimes, then pull the cable off, then wiggle the starter up and down and pull it towards the rear of the tractor and wiggle some more as you pull it out. there is just one place where it clears the ring gear and you can pull it out towards where you are standing and it WILL come out.
