I don't know the requirements for career firefighters are in your area, but where I'm at, Level 1 is Level 1. We do the same basic training as the career guys... we just don't get paid. I don't think that varies to much by area either, but I could be wrong. A lot of the career guys in this area came into the service through volunteer departments, and some still remain on volunteer departments.... I guess it's worth a shot if you're interested. One guy that comes to mind is on a department where they have 4 paid men with the balance being volunteer. To top this off, he is one of the paid staff on shift, ALONG WITH being the department cheif. That's not really a common situation around here, but there it sits...
