There are two 12 volt batteries connected in series (+ to -) for 24 volts. That junction between them is the midpoint and it gets grounded. How its grounded varies with the tractor vintage. Some have a solid battery cable from each battery to the transmission case, some have a cable from battery to battery with a small fused wire to the transmission case. Gerald J.
