Check the fuel flow at the pump, take the line off at the front of the pump and look at the flow. The fuel tank needs to be mostly full first.

If flow is slow work your way back to the tank, the line that crosses the front of the engine is bad about restricting internally at the braided portion.

Restriction can cause air to enter the system and the engine will smoke alot.
